You can't, and you shouldn't. Doing so would make your code quite hard to understand and hard to test.
In LINQ, the queries are applied to objects in memory. If you want to query a database or some other sort of data store, you must go through a class that knows how to work with that sort of thing. I've mentioned some examples in other answers, but these can go way beyond that, for example in something like Hibernate.
The reason you're seeing this argument so often is that there is an open question as to whether.NET can deal with static classes, and the consensus is 'no' for various reasons. However, I also don't think it's a good thing.
